Finding a new fragrance can be daunting. If you tackle the task in person, you get the perk of having dozens of samples at your disposal, but risk being pressured into making a hurried purchase. And if you shop online, you may find yourself in a rabbit hole of romanticized descriptions, Reddit reviews, and articles (hello!) before ultimately making a blind (or should I say scentless) decision.
That was the case for me—someone who does almost all of her shopping virtually—until I stumbled upon Snif. With a no-commitment testing policy and a noteworthy amount of buzz, I knew Snif was a fragrance brand I needed to try.
Snif prides itself on being counter-counter culture, with a totally modern take on fragrance. Founded in October 2020, co-founders Phil Riportella and Bryan Edwards had similar feelings about fragrance: going in-person to find your scent is overwhelming, overpriced, and quite frankly, outdated. They wanted to simplify the experience by eliminating confusing descriptors and pushy salespeople and focusing on what actually matters: the scent.
Each Snif fragrance is developed by experts, approved by a Scent Board that’s composed of non-industry testers, and formulated to last all day. The scents are made without preservatives, phthalates, parabens, and synthetic dyes. Oh, and they’re also unisex.
How Snif Works
Snif's process is nothing short of amazing for someone like me. You can hop over to the website, scroll through the easy-to-understand product pages, and choose a scent or a bundle (which includes three fragrances) to try at no cost. Yes, you read that right: you simply browse, choose, and have a 30 mL bottle and 2 mL samples sent to your door for $0. Even expedited shipping is free. Once your bundle arrives, you have seven days to sniff away and let your nose do the deciding. You can choose to buy the 30mL fragrance for $65 or send it back with no loss.
Our Snif Review
I fully rely on online shopping for all of my essentials—including fragrance. That makes the process of trying a new scent seriously scary, especially because there are so many pricey options out there with hefty return fees.
I had the opportunity to try Snif's latest Collection 3 Bundle Kit, which contains three scents: Burning Bridges, Natural Talent, and Show Pony. I’ll start by saying Snif's packaging is everything I love: clean, minimalist, and complete with quippy lines like “Go ahead, smell us.” Inside the box, I found those 30 ml bottles and 2 ml samples I told you about—and then I let my nose do the rest. Each scent was totally different, seriously good, and lingered throughout the day. My personal favorite of the bundle is Burning Bridges, which includes notes of vanilla and fresh spices; Natural Talent was a close runner-up.
If you find yourself in the same boat as me, Snif is a dream come true. Simply put, this is a fragrance brand that has taken the hassle out of finding a new fragrance—and one that I can confidently purchase from online and know that I’m getting a quality scent sent to my door with the ability to send it back if it isn’t to my nose’s liking. Snif, you smell like a winner in my book.
